Permanent hair removal for PMOS

Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), formerly called PCOS, frequently causes coarse hair to grow on the face or body. This often includes areas like the chin, upper lip, neck, chest, abdomen, back, or other areas.

For some, this symptom is a minor inconvenience. But for many others, affecting roughly 1 in 8 people assigned female at birth, managing the hair every single day can be a frustrating, uncomfortable experience that impacts self-esteem. However you feel about your hair, I will listen to what you want and create a treatment plan based on your goals.

How electrolysis can help where laser fails

Electrolysis permanently treats one hair follicle at a time. It can be used on all skin tones and on hair of any color, including blonde, red, gray, and white hairs that laser cannot target. Laser may also trigger paradoxical hypertrichosis, accidentally stimulating dormant follicles into active, coarser hair growth.

Treatment can focus on complete clearance, a smaller area that bothers you, or reducing the amount of hair you regularly manage. We will start with what matters most to you and adjust the plan as treatment progresses.

What electrolysis can and cannot do

Electrolysis can permanently disable the follicles that are successfully treated, but it does not treat PMOS itself or change the hormonal factors that contribute to hair growth. Hormonal changes may cause other follicles to begin producing coarse hair over time. Those are new hairs from different follicles, not treated hairs growing back, and they can be treated as they appear.

You do not need to be receiving medical treatment for PMOS to begin electrolysis. However, working with your healthcare provider can be helpful in addressing factors that may contribute to new hair growth.

What to expect

Because hair grows in cycles, not every hair is available to treat at the same time. Permanent clearance requires a series of appointments, and the timeline will depend on the area, the amount and type of hair present, previous hair-removal methods, and how consistently you are able to come in.

You may shave or trim between appointments, but avoid tweezing, waxing, threading, or using an epilator. Those methods remove the hair from the follicle, leaving nothing available for me to treat.

A private and respectful space for your care

I know that dealing with unwanted facial or body hair can be personal. I provide care in a private treatment room where you can talk openly about your concerns without being judged or made to feel embarrassed. My role is to meet you where you are and help you make steady progress, one appointment at a time.

Getting started

All new clients begin with an in-person consultation. We will review your health history, discuss your goals, assess your skin, and create a treatment plan. A small patch test will also allow you to experience what treatment feels like.
