Electrolysis for Trans Men

There are many reasons a trans man or transmasculine individual may seek electrolysis. You may need hair removed in preparation for gender-affirming surgery, have unwanted facial or back hair that causes discomfort or dysphoria, or simply want to make a change that feels right for you.

Whatever brings you here, I will listen to what you want and work with you toward your goals. I will not make assumptions about your body, your transition, or what you should want to change.

Electrolysis for phalloplasty preparation

Some phalloplasty procedures use skin from the forearm or thigh to create the phallus and, when urethral lengthening is included, the new urethra. Depending on the procedure, permanent hair removal may be required from part or all of the donor site. Removing hair from tissue that will be used inside the urethra can help prevent hair-related complications after surgery.

Your surgeon will determine exactly which areas must be cleared and whether electrolysis is appropriate. Please bring any template, measurements, or instructions provided by your surgical team so I can follow their requirements closely.

Donor-site clearing takes time because hair grows in cycles and not every follicle can be treated at once. Starting early allows time to treat hairs as they appear through different growth cycles and for your skin to recover between appointments. Your treatment plan will depend on the area, the amount of hair present, your skin’s response, and your surgeon’s timeline.

Electrolysis may also be used after surgery, when treatment is appropriate, and you have been cleared by your surgeon.

A private and respectful place for treatment

Electrolysis can be a personal process and requires spending a lot of time with your electrologist. I provide care in a private treatment room where you can ask questions, talk openly about your needs, and be treated with respect.

As a transman, working with trans men is one of the reasons I became an electrologist. After spending time in community with trans men, I knew I wanted my work to offer something practical: skilled care in a quiet, private setting where you can feel comfortable being yourself.

I understand that electrolysis is not just about removing hair. It can be one part of preparing for surgery, feeling more comfortable in your body, or moving toward something you have worked hard for. My role is to meet you where you are and help you make steady progress, one appointment at a time.

Getting started

All new clients begin with an in-person consultation. We will review your health history, discuss your goals, assess your skin, and create a treatment plan. A small patch test will also allow you to experience what treatment feels like.

If you are preparing for surgery, please bring your surgeon’s hair-removal instructions or template. If you do not have them yet, we can still discuss the process and what information you will need from your surgical team.

Not sure whether electrolysis is right for you? You are welcome to contact me before booking.
